Inside the Sound of Signing Tony Raymond: Soundbyte Score’s a Win.

EXCLUSIVE: Signing Tony Raymond — the new sports dramedy tackling the cutthroat world of college football recruiting — is gearing up for a U.S. theatrical release following its world premiere at the Austin Film Festival on October 24. The film is distributed by Iconic in partnership with Southern Isles Pictures and State Line Films.

Written and directed by Glen Owen, the story centers on Coach Walt McFadden (Michael Mosley, Ozark), an idealistic assistant coach at Louisiana University who gets one last shot at saving his career: landing the nation’s #1 defensive end, Tony Raymond. His pursuit takes him deep into rural Alabama, where the game behind the game becomes all too clear: in recruiting, money moves the goal posts.

The film features an ensemble that includes Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino, Rob Morgan, and NFL greats Marshawn Lynch, Champ Bailey, Richard Sherman, and Brian “The Boz” Bosworth.

Behind the scenes, Soundbyte played a major role in shaping the film’s sonic identity. John Roberts composed the original score, bringing a modern southern energy that heightens both the comedy and high-stakes tension. Soundbyte also handled the complete audio post, from grounded, character-driven sound design to full-throttle foley work that brings the world of SEC country to life. The team also oversaw the theatrical mix, ensuring the film’s emotional beats and big-play moments translate powerfully on the big screen.

Produced by John Thomas and Kristy Clabaugh of Southern Isles Pictures with Don Mandrik and Glen Owen of State Line Films, the film’s theatrical deal was brokered by Thomas, Owen, Clabaugh, and Iconic’s Steve Menkin.

Signing Tony Raymond stands out as a smart, character-driven story that offers both authenticity and great entertainment,” said Menkin, President and co-founder of Iconic Events Releasing. “Glen Owen brings a rare mix of insight and humor to the realities of college football today.”

The producing team added: “Releasing independent films is always unpredictable, but Iconic believed in this film and the audience it can reach. We’re excited to share Signing Tony Raymond with viewers everywhere.”.
